Sweet, sentimental, super dated in its language. I'd never read it before, only wanted to live in the film. Might be a rare case of liking the film better - a richer world, more direct story and far less annoying characters!

I am not sure why this book has stood the test of time, so little of it seems relatable to today and doesn't really seem like it was relatable to children of yesteryear either. I did think it had a lovely message of the value of nature and healthy outdoor life.

The first book I was ever given for my very own. (All the others I had to share with my sisters.) It was a gift for being a flower girl in a wedding. Hardcover, beautiful plates. Made me fall in love with gardens, books, and travel all at the same time. Give it to a little girl you love.

Revisiting as an adult! It was so, so slow and didn’t keep me compelled! Gonna stick with the movie.
