(2nd Read)

Took a lot longer to get into this one (knowing how the siege turns out from the previous book hurts that storyline for me), but spent some time away and then came back and finished the last half in a day.

It's very strange seeing Cook try to explore all of these Southern cultures while also having his characters treat them as less than human so much of the time. Just plain frustrating as well that Blade and Mogaba have to be the big traitors while all the white characters keep their morals... Lot of problematic stuff going on to say the least.

But the mystery of Murgen being lost in time, Longshadow's origins and Catcher's schemes, Kina shifting in her sleep... incredible.

A dark fantasy version of _Slaughterhouse Five_, but more so.

Jag vet inte om det beror på att jag haft ett längre uppehåll från den här serien men den här boken kändes otroligt rörig. Förstår inte vad Cook ville berätta med denna. Hoppas att nästa är mycket bättre.

The new perspective was fun, but I got confused with the jumping around in time. Still a fan of the series and I am interested to see where things go next.

unless I was really missing something this book lowkey was NOT it. struggled through it which is not ideal. maybe this is a me problem but I read glen cook for the plot and this added practically zero. great language, lots of clever stuff, but I feel it could have been done with new story too.... I am curious if I missed anything big with the time travel stuff though that made this worthwhile. definitely room for cleverness there and maybe I just wasn't good enough to see it.
