You are first thrown into this novel with a trucker driving along a stretch of road known as The Dead Shot. Up ahead he noticed a fallen tree blocking the road. He knows his truck can plow right on through the tree; however he knows morning traffic will start soon and figured he can move the tree just as easily to not halt other commuters morning. As he gets closer to the tree he notices it's not only a tree in the road; but a body of a woman who is deceased and frozen.
Once police arrive on scene, they notice what could only be the victims phone close by; with 23 missed calls. When the call in placed to the mystery number, the person on the other line is none other than Detective Cash Harvey, who is not actively on the case. The mystery dead woman is none other than her secret lover that no one seems to know they've been together for the past 5 years.

As the investigation into Dolly's murder progresses you are shown glimpses of what her life was like growing up. While she had nothing but a loving aunt and uncle raising her like she was her own; she did have a brother Matthew. And to say Matthew had one too many screw loose is putting it kindly.

This was a twisted and devious tale. While at times most of the books focal points were obvious; I am impressed with Rowen Wren's ability to tell a twisted tale and can't wait to read more of his work.

Thank you to the author/BookSiren for the free digital copy of this book. I read it voluntarily and opinions here are my own.

This was a very good dark and suspenseful read. It was a page turner! Dolly turns up dead and all fingers point to Detective Cash Harvey, the girlfriend, but was it her? Could she have murdered the one she loved?

Does Dolly’s past and how she grew up play a part? Was she two different people? Lots of twists in this book. The ending may surprise you.
