I had figured out the murder in present-day pretty early on, but the past murders I didn't figure out. I liked the parallels to true crime stories. As well as the criticism of the racism in the US justice system. It was overall a good book, but not spectacular. Another great narrator!

Moderate: Blood, Vomit, and Alcohol
Minor: Animal cruelty, Animal death, and Xenophobia

Good plot with just okay characters. I started off really disliking the main female character then began to feel for her more towards the end. I can’t imagine what I would’ve done in her situations. Very fast read and kept my attention.
Graphic: Body shaming, Child abuse, Child death, Death, Eating disorder, Emotional abuse, and Death of parent
Moderate: Gun violence, Infidelity, and Violence

When Rachel finds a body in the woods, she panics & flees the scene not even pausing to call the police. This looks even worse when the victim is identified as the estranged wife of Rachel's new boyfriend, the woman who threatened Rachel in public a few weeks before. You see, this isn't the first time Rachel has found a body, & last time she ended up accused of their murders. When she was nineteen, Rachel - then Casey - was working as a nanny in California, when the parents & five-year-old daughter were found dead, & Casey & the young baby were found in a closet hiding. Casey was found guilty of their murders & went to prison before being exonerated & released five years into her sentence. Is history repeating itself or is someone setting Rachel up?
This is a cleverly plotted & well-written book, but I really didn't like the main character as either Rachel or Casey. It's dual timeline with the fallout from the present-day murder alternating with the events of the murders a couple of decades ago. Both sections keep the reader fully engaged with the story, & although I did guess what had happened, it didn't detract from the reading experience.
Thanks to NetGalley & publishers, Amazon Publishing UK/Thomas & Mercer, for the opportunity to read an ARC. I am voluntarily giving an honest review.
