Love historical romance? pick this book up right now. Galen & Hester have such a beautiful story! And I was so enthralled with the plot and finding out what happens next. And the TWIST! I did not expect it one bit.

Also - Foster, sir.... yeah you are a fool for leaving Hester. But you know what???? I am glad because she deserved so much better (and got it!).

Miss Jenkins, what voodoo have you placed into this book because it has a lot of the dated tropes that I despise and steer clear from: a tall playboy billionaire mmc who alpha males everything in life and our "innocent" virgin fmc who's small and downtrodden. And yet here I am utterly obsessed and can’t wait to read more from this author!

Hester is such a strong, independent and selfless character who has been through so much. She will do everything for her black community even if it costs her her own life and freedom. No wonder our MMC went absolutely feral for her. Like I get it!! But sometimes our MMC just need to calm th down lol. Our fmc being absolutely clueless when it comes to anything about sex absolutely makes sense in a historical context because where else can our girl learn about these things? Also, the way Miss Jenkins flawlessly interweaves some well-researched history during the abolitionist period into the story is just chef's kiss.

4 - The way Beverly Jenkins merges history with her story is amazing. It can feel a tiny bit info dumpy at times but I honestly really loved and appreciated it. It feels extremely well researched and I felt the love and passion she has for preserving and sharing history.

The romance itself does feel a bit dated (take a shot every time she writes virgin), but overall pretty sweet and feels well deserved for the female main character.
