I found the first half of this book boring as heck. Thoreau goes into great detail about how much everything costs to set up a forest home and how everyone should live as simply as him. I’m a fan of simple living, but he’d often wax poetical about how marvelous it was to be free of the need for coffee, sugar, and meat he didn’t catch, as well as the abundance of free fuels to be found in the forest.

The second half of the book was spent far less atop his soapbox and I truly enjoyed all the descriptions of actual life in the woods.

It really made me think, but it's long and sometimes a bit dry if you don't look into the subtext.

I have loved and cherished this book, warts and all!

Only made it to page 82/333. This book is ~historically significant~ but at this point I feel that someone has said what Thoreau here is saying, but in much better writing. I mean seriously this book is excruciatingly boring (for me). I really really recommend just picking up some poetry instead of reading this.

*and I read a lot of boring books okay but the return on investment here is just so low
