First of all, this was 'the best book' of all Karen books I have read till now (only 2). The ending is mysterious, but the last sentence brings up a lot of thoughts to our mind.
It brought up the thought of Sarah sleeping with Peter, because that is the only way he would think of Ellery to be her daughter. Secondly, Sarah knew something which Sadie didn't and that is her and Peter's relationship, because if it was only homecoming queens getting kidnapped and murdered then there is no chance that Sarah might have suffered, because Sadie was the homecoming queen. I am literally so sorry to the characters I suspected because they were not guilty and I just had crazy thoughts. So, well, that is literally it.
I loved the plot set up and everything. I even liked Ryan Rodriguez and Ezra and Malcolm and Declan. Of course who doesn't. But beware of the choices you make...

Karen McManus just has a way with YA murder mysteries. I genuinely didn't guess who it was AT ALL, and where usually that might annoy me, the way it's done here is so good. It makes sense while at the same time, not being too glaringly obvious from the start. Impeccable.

with their mom in rehab, the twins ellery and ezra have no choice but to move in with her grandmother which leads them from california to a small town near the canadian border.
but said town, echo ridge, has a troubled past of losing its homecoming queens with one disappearing in 1996 and another one being murdered just five years ago, both unsolved.
ellery soon will be closer to the true crime she loves than she'd like to be when the killer suddenly claims to be back.

it's official, i'm a karen mcmanus fan. in my opinion, 'two can keep a secret' is even better than her highly popular book 'one of us is lying'. fast paced, intense characters with great dynamics, mysterious, full of secrets waiting to get out, really(!) unexpected plottwists. short: insanely good.
i was so invested from the first page to the last, speculating about victims, suspects, motives, everything. yet the plot twists and ending did not fail to surprise me (especially that last sentence still haunts me 5 hours after i finished the book).
