I loved that she took on a story of race relations in our country. I think that needs to happen more frequently. Getting into the mind of white supremacists is not light or relaxing. It's a very intense story but a good one, in that "everyone should be aware of this" kind of way. It's my first book by Jodi Picoult and I've heard most of her books deal with tough subjects.

I went back and forth between thinking this book was amazing but also not. What I can say is that it's definitely a page turner and I found the issues very relevant to today's times with regards to racism and systemic injustice towards BIPOC. The 3 different POVs between the 3 main characters definitely provide an interesting insight into the minds of how these people work. I can also appreciate that a White author is using her platform to educate and raise awareness about this.

**After meeting with my book club to discuss this, I had to bring down my rating to 3 stars.

Small Great Things was my first time reading a work written by the best-selling Jodi Picoult. Naturally, I didn’t know what to expect.

What we have here is a careful examination of legal system and racism in America. Overall, Picoult gives an eye-opening (to some) and accurate account of racial inequality in the US. There are many strong points: intricate plot, fair portrayal of an African-American protagonist and thought-provoking examination of legal system in our country. My only problem with Small Great Things is the part where, it feels like, Picoult is preaching to the reader, rather than just showing. 3 stars.

Unfortunately, this book will not be read by those who need to read it the most.
