A quick and enjoyable read. You're in the head of a 17 year old girl and she feels human and likeable -- which I feel like doesn't usually happen when people write from the perspective of teenage girls -- you appreciate her flaws and understand her missteps for the naïve, unsure mistakes they are, all on a quest to figure out where she fits in the complicated world her parents built around her. The writing style fits for the character's age and perspective, and feels like natural narration. The main conflict of this story is the relationships between mothers and daughters: what is that 'supposed' to look like? To feel like? How to navigate an untraditional relationship with your mother? How to understand the form her love takes? The form yours does? On a quest for her father, Margot finds her mother and herself.

Although this book was described in a way that indicated an incredibly interesting premise, the execution was off and it fell flat for me

It’s just . . . very French.
