I really enjoyed this. Very quick read. I loved the storytelling, the flash forwards. Almost like you were looking at a family photo album and looking at specific pictures and talking about the stories behind them. Loved that. There was a subplot that was silly and bordered on ridiculous, which was a little off putting to me, but I still really enjoyed it.

A gentle, elegant read covering several generations of a family in small town Southwestern Ontario (Lambton County). The novel jumps through time over a span of four decades as the family moves through one life event to another. At each point where the story moves forward, I was anticipating what changes would be revealed in the relationships of the main characters.
The author's use of the imminent closure of the town hall due to municipal amalgamation becomes an interesting metaphor for the passing of a generation.

I really liked her writing style, but I didn't really like the book. I felt like just as you would start to get involved in the characters' lives, the next chapter would begin (and it would suddenly be 10-12 years later). And at the start of that chapter, someone would suddenly be married or something. I missed having at least a little leading up to some of the bigger life events.

A wonderful book a bout regular people who have a pretty normal life. one family and their relationships and choices, all realistic and non-dramatic. After reading two books that were a little bit more "out there' it was really nice to read something that was an everyday experience kind of book. it sounds boring, but it is simply "safe".

I switched from biking to taking the bus so I could have more time with the Chambers family. What a gentle, lovely book.

The characters and the plot
twist and turn in ways you
don't anticipate and don't
want them to go. Nevertheless,
the characters and the plot
seem to have to go the way
they go. Recommended.
