I really, really, really did not like this book.

It reads like Fox and O'Hare fan fiction, and not in a good way. It truly feels like the author got the free copy of Uncharted from Sony's PlayAtHome quarantine PS4 promotion and decided to write a fan-fic mashup of Nick Drake's adventures with the adventures of Nick and Kate. It really didn't work.

Don't get me wrong, I was so excited to see a new Fox and O'Hare book - I wasn't crazy about the last madcap adventure to Hawaii, but that's okay, I still love Kate, Nick, Jack, and the rest of Kate's crazy family! Nick and Kate are fun together and Jack reminds me of a one-man A-Team (I can picture him with a cigar saying, "I love it when a plan comes together!").

But this book. It started with an interesting premise - we get to meet Nick's dad who is also a master thief! There's a treasure map! Adventure!

But the writing is just terrible. We change perspective from the four main characters virtually every paragraph, sometimes even changing inside the same paragraph. We go from Nick thinking in the first person
> "La la la... I know about steam engines," Nick thought
to experiencing Kate's life:
> "I need to shoot all my bullets at these guys so Nick can save the day," Kate mused.
And don't get me started about the construction: "Jack knew that the Nazis blah blah blah...."

I'm about 80% of the way done about five days into it. It's a slog. Every Fox and O'Hare book previously was a one day read. I couldn't get enough. Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg had something special!

Peter Evanovich did a passable job in Big Kahuna. I gave it a "meh" maybe next time grade.

I really wish Steve Hamilton didn't write this book.

I’ve enjoyed this series, but from page one I had a bad feeling. It reads a bit like someone wrote a draft and forgot to go back and add an intro chapter or fill in information that makes their shenanigans mildly possible.

The Bounty gets back to the original series, which is welcome after the waste of time and paper that was The Big Kahuna. This was an adventure around Europe that added some fun new characters, visited some major historical landmarks, and set the scene to continue the series. It’s a quick and fun read.

It's time to join Kate and Nick on their next adventure in The Bounty by Janet Evanovich. I have to say that this one is actually pretty great.

Can Kate and Nick find the Nazi Gold Train before the Brotherhood does?

Kate and Nick are helping the Vatican police to catch a thief stealing what they think the thief is after. Except it doesn't work the way that they think it should. The thief is none other than Quentin Fox, who then gets Nick to help him out—eventually leading Kate and Jake to help them out. It's a race against time for these four people to beat the Brotherhood in finding the treasure. Granted, the Brotherhood has been one step ahead of them this whole time, which irks the four of them.

I loved seeing Quentin and his relationship with Nick and how that differs from Kate's relationship with her father. The four of them as a team worked well as they all brought something valuable to the team in getting to the treasure.

The Story

We follow Kate, Nick, Quentin, and Jake around the Allied countries, following clues leading them to Nazi gold hidden for seventy-five years. Along the way, the four of them are dodging not only the cops but also the Brotherhood to get to the legendary Nazi gold train. I was swept up in the chase to find the gold, each clue, and all the places they visited. Ms. Evanovich and her partner in writing have done a fabulous job of describing all the sites and bringing us the characters on this chase. I felt like I was there with the characters experiencing everything.

Five Stars
The Bounty by Janet Evanovich has found a new partner in Steve Hamilton for writing this awesome duo. It reminded me of how it was back when she wrote with Mr. Lee Golderg. Granted, it wasn't quite as good as the original ones, but it's good. I loved every minute of being in this book that I had to stay up to finish as I couldn't put it down once I started to read. Another thing that I liked is the multiple references to The Wizard of Oz throughout the book, as it made it even funnier in the places where she put them.

I am giving The Bounty by Janet Evanovich five stars and a recommendation to anyone that loves a funny mystery. Well, not just this book but the whole series. It is a great one by Ms. Evanovich.

Thank you for dropping by! I hope you enjoyed this review of The Bounty by Janet Evanovich.

Until the next time,
