When I consider that some translations of this work have been title "Seperation" the story takes on a different and perhaps more melancholic meaning.

Il libro in pochissime pagine e con una straordinaria semplicità ci mostra come si evolve l’amicizia tra Hans Schwarz e Konradin von Hohenfels ai tempi del nazismo. I due, pur essendo molto diversi, riescono ad instaurare un rapporto intenso e magico; tutto cambia dopo un anno. Le loro diversità li porteranno a separarsi irrimediabilmente, ma non dimenticheranno mai quando sono stati importanti l’uno per l’altro.
