This book got me out of a four months long reading slump! I’m one of those obnoxious people who usually can’t stand the main girl but I LOVED Rosie (and I wasn’t even a fun of our previous sweetheart, Lina - despite adoring the book- so that means a lot). As someone who struggles with fear of failing my loved ones with what I want to do and be, I understood her struggles - I might not be brave as Rosie to publish my writing but I might be someday. And oh my god LUCAS; first of all, can we talk about the name? Because that’s a personal favorite of mine that I don’t see enough of. Second of all, I’m a sucker for the regular broody dark haired mysterious grump, but I never realized how much I love the golden retriever energy giving ball of sunshine of a man until now (perhaps that’s why I’m still single). Lastly, and I’m taking a more serious note here, I’m currently recovering from an injury that has knocked me out of the set course of my life and the mental struggle is sometimes so much worse than the physical one. The subject was portrayed so beautifully here through Lucas that it actually helped me push through. The past months in my life has been difficult and this book helped me in more ways than one. Thank you Elena.

I love romcoms too much and I love the characters too much. I also think Lina is pregnant but that’s not relevant.

I loved the dynamic between these two once they got going, but I wasn’t as strongly connected to them as SLD.

This was perfect!! I loved Rosie and Lucas so much. I went into this with low expectations and ended up loving this book to pieces. Lucas is such a top tier cinnamon roll character and Rosie was so lovable. Lucas was so lovable and perfect, I cannot stress that enough. Also angel is the top tier term of endearment lol. Although I loved Rosie I will say she did fall a bit flat as an individual at times but it really didn't bother me. Lucas being a damaged hero was kind of surprising tbh and the way he thought of himself as unworthy kinda threw me off considering how kind he is. I loved seeing Lina and Aaron again omg my heart lol. Overall I enjoyed reading this very much and will reread in the future.

I came into this with the lowest of low expectations. In fact, after reading The Spanish Love Deception I almost returned this book to the library unread because I was so disappointed with the first book in the series. I’m glad I didn’t.

This book is the opposite of everything I hated in TSLD. The characters are both sweet and genuinely like each other as people from the start. They respect each other. Other people have posted that this felt like one long miscommunication trope but I disagree, I feel like it was much more of a “fake dating and then  talking about your feelings realistically” situation. Through the whole book Rosie and Lucas genuinely consider how the other is feeling, which seems rare in a lot of the romances I’m reading.

One of the only complaints I have is that I wish Rosie’s character was just a little more fleshed out. We know Lucas cooks, surfs, loves his dog, travels the world, is kind of a ladies man etc. Rosie, in comparison, feels a little two-dimensional. I would have loved to hear  more about she decided to make a huge career change and what it felt like to sell her first book/rise to popularity as an author because that’s a major part of her character’s recent history. Instead we mostly focus on historic but somehow underdeveloped relationships with her brother and dad and her love of a vampire tv show. I loved that she wasn’t just a brunette klutz whose only defining feature was being clumsy/not taking care of herself/fainting, but I wanted more. It felt like a lot of her character was implied while Lucas was more explained. Maybe it was so people could see themselves more in Rosie (tbh works for me) but I think it was a missed opportunity to connect with her character more.

Finally, Lucas is fucking hot, and a huge part of the reason this gets four stars. A man who’s strong and athletic but has emotional range? Who loves to take care of people and centers their needs? Who acts respectfully but not in that gross “m’lady” kind of way? Who takes the time to plan meaningful dates? “This is what you do to me, Rosie”????? I’m in love, A+, looking forward to the next few weeks of this afterglow.

This book is okay that's it , in comparison to the Spanish love deception it's kind of a flop. The beginning was adorable and the tropes are great but there were tiny parts of the plot that gave me the biggest ick ever. Especially the first spicy scene i basically vomited. The love interest doesn't come near THE AARON BLACKFORD.so overall probs wont read again will recommend to a friend if i know exactly what kind of books they like.

“‘Thank you.’ For listening. And for tonight. And for making me feel… less alone. A little less burdened, even if only for a little while. ‘I think I really needed to talk to someone, and I want to make sure you know.’”
