Not a training book but full of ideas that I can use with my own psychiatric service dog. Touching story.

TW for pet loss, animal
abuse
It had a much sadder tone than I was expecting - I had to skip a chapter that was too triggering about pet loss. The subtitle was also misleading in that this wasn’t really a book about training shelter dogs for service - I think only 1 or 2 of the dogs came from shelters?
But informative read re the tasks psych service dogs can assist with! Author is a pilot and search and rescue dog handler as well.

Laughed out loud. Teared up. Followed the author on social media. I'd say the book worked.

This book not only advocates for the rights of service dogs and their handlers, but also advocates for those who live with psychological issues. Psychological issues can happen to anyone, and it's unfortunate that it is so stigmatized.

My second Susannah Charleson book and I loved it, as I did the first. Not quite as much, something about Puzzle's story just drew me in and kept me there, but I did really enjoy this. Her descriptions of Jake Piper and the Poms had me laughing out loud more than once. I'm not a huge non-fic reader, but I'll read anything Susannah puts out there and if you're a dog person, you should too.

Okay, this book absolutely warmed my animal loving heart. I by chance found this at my local goodwill awhile ago and finally just now getting to it. I've always been an animal lover, especially dogs. I've also always had an interest in service animals and have actually been wanting to go down the path to become a trainer so this book just called to me.
I also definitely cried a few tears at some of the specific stories in these pages. My love and appreciation for dogs and working dogs has grown even more. I didn't think that was even possible but here we are.
