The characters from Pride and Prejudice have always stayed with me and this book scratched a definite itch. Carrie Bebris kept the essence of Elizabeth and Darcy's characters while putting them into a regency world that has some magic and mysticism. This is an excellent first installment in what promises to be a fun series. Elizabeth and Darcy have just tied and the knot and are attempting to make their way back to Pemberley for their first Christmas married. However, they continue to get diverted along the way.

Bebris captures Charlotte's poor attitude and snootiness towards the newlyweds perfect. Sill upset that Darcy chose Elizabeth, Charlotte gets revenge married and things go downhill from there. Elizabeth's concern for a woman that would not grant her the same kindness is perfectly in line with the character. She tries to determine the cause of Charlotte's sharp decline and is the only one to put all the pieces together.

This is a cozy, clean book with minimal romance and no sex scenes. Its stays in line with the original novel while adding a little flair. I for one, am all here for the added magical element to the story. It was subtle and not overdone; none of the original characters have suddenly grown into magical powers they were previously unaware of. While this was a re-read I have never been able to get my hands on the other books in the series and I am looking forward to what secrets they hold!

Grab your favorite cuddle blanket and enjoy! Happy Reading!

A nice change of pace from all the P&P fanfics that center on the romance. Also has a fair amount of banter and witty dialogue that is often lacking in JAFF!

A Pride and Prejudice sequel where Mr and Mrs Darcy become concerned over the behaviour of Mrs Parrish née Caroline Bingley.
An enjoyable mystery though with a very limited number of suspects.

I really enjoyed Pride & Prescience. Bebris did a good job, in my opinion, of capturing Regency England and the way that people would speak and think - although there were a couple glaringly obvious problems with some dialogue: a few instances where words from modern-day America were used and that kind of ruined the scene - for me, at least.

Going into it knowing that it was going to be a little bit... unexpected definitely helped with the ending. That's really the only problem I have with it - the ending was a little unbelievable and wrapped things up a little too neatly for my liking. I mean, I knew that certain people couldn't be involved in certain things (and I know I am being vague... you'll have to read it to find out!!), so that narrowed down the detective work to just a couple people.

However, Mr Darcy and Lizzie made adorable newlywed detectives, and I do look forward to reading the second book in the series!! :D I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a good romp through post-Pride & Prejudice Regency England with familiar characters.

people leave me alone to read!
great book thus far. I love Darcy and Elizabeth as a team married couple!
I am so glad someone came up with a series with Darcy and Elizabeth detective team.
This book being the first is fantastic. I like how the author tells you and shows you how much in love this couple are, and how they look after one another.
I really like that Caroline Bingley got some comeuppence in this book, because in Pride and Prejudice, she is just nasty.
You have to feel for her in the end though. Being duped by her husband.
I can't wait to read the second book in this series, and hope that more are on their way.
My sincere hope is that Darcy and Elizabeth can finally get to go away and be on their own. Give them a honeymoon please!

I’ve always wanted to venture into the realm of the “spin off” books when it came to Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice.” I love the book, adore the movies, and although I don’t know if Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy are my absolute favorite literary characters, they are wonderful. Unfortunately, I decided to begin this foray into spin offs with “Mr. Darcy Takes a Wife.” It was wretched. All it seemed to be was an excuse to write graphic sex scenes between the poorly portrayed Darcy newlyweds with a few obligatory attempts at a plot which wasn’t all that interesting anyway. I was much depressed over this for a few days.
Enter Carrie Bebris and her “Mr. and Mrs. Darcy Mystery” series. I am not a big mystery novel fan. But this woman’s book blew me away. She doesn’t just use Jane Austen’s characters for her own mysteries but allows the mysteries to be shaped and influenced by the people who populate “Pride and Prejudice.” Elizabeth is still inquisitive and outspoken, curious and stubborn. And Darcy is still proud but kind, caring but…well – stubborn. And the other characters from the book are also captured and further developed skillfully. The plot is good enough to keep me guessing (and if you’ve ever watched CSI with me, you know how hard that is…) and has a supernatural element to it that naturally appeals to me. The author even writes to her readers at the beginning of the novel apologizing for any liberties she may have taken with the characters and explains part of her struggle in using such classic persons in a modern novel. And that, my friends…earns points in my book.

A fun spin off with some of my favorite Austen characters. It was suspenseful, thrilling, romantic and clean.
