I intended to read this before Deckard removed it from Kindle Unlimited, but I didn't. So instead, I listened to the audiobook on Hoopla, narrated by Nick J. Russo. I've listened to Russo once before and enjoyed his narration well enough. For this, Russo's narration didn't really work for me. He does an English accent for Stuart that probably needed more practice and fine-tuning. And because the story is told in Stuart's 1st-person POV, Russo stays in the accent all the time, not just for Stuart's dialogue.

Narration aside, the story is way too short to be engaging or to fully develop the characters and their romantic relationship. Also, I find it weird that Deckard has this tagged as erotica on his website / in the blurb. On goodreads he seems to contradict himself by saying it's "very light on sex, just one scene. No BDSM. No power struggles." Perhaps he just uses the tag to indicate a story contains sexual content? Anyway, this was not my favorite of Deckard's by far, but I am still a fan of his work and plan to read his entire catalogue eventually.

Short but sweet

Another short story with a transgender MC this one is a sweet exploration of a different kind of love - the sort that comes out of nowhere and lays you flat on your backside.

Interesting story dealing with transgender and the many faces that exist with some of the reasons why. The main character is an actor with a downhill career. He is drunk and about to make a scene sure to get into the tabloids when a woman saves him, or is it a woman? A man? Tim. hmm. Well, he then sleeps off his headache, and ends up hanging out (hiding out), and getting to know Tim better. Much better as he already knows about him from some of his writing. A very quick tryst and love story ensues.

This was a sweet story in the end, but it was definitely different. A people are people no matter how they see themselves or others do.

This felt like it was written by someone who really wanted to write an erotic, fictional, trans 101 about sex. Which I guess is fine, if that's what you're looking for. Unfortunately, however, these characters were flat, boring, and one-dimensional, which made the trans 101 about sex feel pointed, intrusive, and largely about trans anatomy. The fact that there was no discernable plot definitely didn't help matters. It gets two stars from me mostly because it has a prominent transmasculine character that is not horrifically offensively portrayed, which regrettably says more about the state of transmasculine characters in fiction than it does about this book.

I was disappointed to realise this wasn’t a full length novel as I hadn’t read the blurb. I am glad I didn’t as I am not sure it would have appealed.
I liked this a lot. I am not sure that I believed that a five day relationship balanced out against a 90 day waiting period with no contact. Minor quibble with a good novella

This felt really rushed. The story line was too complicated to be a short story. I did enjoy it, but felt it was missing too much.
