(I am reading this in an omnibus but I did at one time own this edition.)

The Welsh setting in this is lovely. I had a hard time with the first half, and especially one particular event (*coughCafallcough*) but the second half was very intriguing. I liked the end very much and Bran's story is great. Also a very good setup for the final book.

I also liked how there was some examination of the morality of the Light and Dark; how the Light has humanity's good in mind, but is rather coldly beyond caring about the individual humans in the quest for their goals.

It also occurred to me that this series is kind of like the anti-Narnia, since it is rooted entirely in pagan folklore and tradition.

I'm looking forward to the final book. Maybe I'll try to finish the series by the end of the year.

This book continues the excellent Dark is Rising sequence but I must say I was a bit surprised. It didn't seem to have the impact on me that books 2 and 3 had especially considering it was a Newbery Winner. It is a much shorter book than 1, 2 or 5 and it shows as it seems the author just brought this story to a quick conclusion when she could have gone deeper into the conflict between good and evil. I still enjoyed it and thought it is well done it just wasn't as great as the other books in the series.
