I read the traditional Chinese edition. Jia Zhangke is a beast of a filmmaker. This book is for the love of cinema and it is an amazing love. His insights into the problems of contemporary culture here are also remarkable and resonating. Felt true to me.
However as a compilation of interviews and essays, maybe more work could be done. Jia is such a good writer and I wish he had written something specifically for this book.
