I like the setting and the growing plot, really wished that certain characters would have interacted more, but I like the vibes.

A decent read but very much the start of a series -- I found it a bit frustrating that not a single plot thread is resolved in the entire 400-page book.

The interchangeable use of first and last names made this a little challenging to listen to in audio format at first. A lot of characters are introduced pretty quickly and there's not a lot of time for the names and my mental image of each character to sync up.

Other than that, this was a lot of fun! I really loved the glimpses into Haven's culture, and I'm a huge sucker for found family stories. I was a little surprised at how late the part of the plot the blurb focuses on came in--it was over halfway through before Teo was actually framed for the murder, and the result high-stakes situation took over. I also thought it was an interesting choice to name the book after Ocean, yet we experience her primarily through Haven's and Teo's perspectives.

I loved the premise of Korea being the space-faring superpower, and would be interested to hear more about life planet-side; perhaps there's bonus material out there for me to find...

I honestly kept excepting the captain to come around and win me over with some kind of redeeming quality, but I suppose you don't end up in charge of a Class 4 ship for no reason. I thought her characterization was very effective and would love to know more about how Dae became the person she is by the time of the novel.

I'm excited to preorder the second book (which I found out about in the midst of reading this one), and I will likely do a reread of the first once that comes out.

I absolutely adored this! It ended a bit abruptly but I think this is the nature of 'the book series' which I don't typically read out of a fear of these types of cliffhangers and the subsequent wait for the next book. HOWEVER, I loved all the characters. I was promised found family and friendship and Elaine absolutely delivered. I'm scratching at the walls waiting for Teo's Durumi. I'm starting to think sci-fi might be my genre???

Ocean's Godori is a space opera that has been compared to Becky Chambers and Firefly, and it definitely delivered. This is Elaine Cho's debut, and I found it to be very fascinating and magnetic work! We follow Ocean Yoon, who is an elite pilot; however, her career with the Alliance (the Korean agency that dominates the system) seems to be coming to an end after an incident. Her best friend, Teo, is framed for murder, and she will risk everything to save him. We also follow Haven, who is Mortemian and a new medic on the ship. The storylines start independently and Cho weaves them together in interesting ways. The book was a bit slow to start but the pacing ramped up and was so engaging. The world building was revealed in layers, and the writing was so compelling. I found the characters to be endearing, well rounded, and wonderful to follow, and I did not want to put this book down. The book does end rather abruptly, but it made sense for the story and made me eager to start the next book in the series. I highly recommend this one!
