Ugh. I liked so much of this book in that I didn't really know what Jacob's truth was right up until the end. I liked the back and forth with the trial and seeing inside the father's head. It wasn't clear at all how this would turn out. Unfortunately I hated the ending. I felt at a loss and very perplexed at how the last few chapters played out. When I turned the last page I thought "You've got to be kidding me!". I just found it horribly sad and ultimately unfulfilling.

I have been reading this story between novels for a while now. It is well worth it. I liked how the book weaves it's story however it doesn't hold my attention for long periods of time.

Holy moly!! I think overall this book was quite good. I listened via audiobook so honestly the last two hours were the clincher for me... absolutely amazing... In every twisted turn. As usual, I easily became familiar with the characters, and found the voice of the narrator that of a wise mentor figure. The beginning of the book and most of the content is a mix of standard popular novel hype with research defining the courtroom setting and character definition in the wake of a terrible crime. The most compelling part of the book is that it approaches the topic of inherited evil and parental responsibility... When even in the end there is so clear truth... And the end is never really the end

I was hesitant to read this book since I'd read other reviewers compare it to a Jodi Picoult book. I LOATHE Picoult's books and their ridiculous twist endings, it's so gimmicky. That said, I liked this book and while I can seen some similarities between it and Picoult's books, the similarities are minor.

The story is enthralling. There are twists and turns, though I did start to figure things out. The actual ending was a surprise which I found to be a sadly satisfying and morbid ending.

Listened to the audiobook version. It was very hard to follow at times. Seemed like it would suddenly jump to a new scene with no warning.

I decided to read this after I watched the Apple TV mini series. I do like that the book delved more into the psychology of where everyone was at (guaranteed that is hard to portray in film). And I personally liked the way the book ended better than the TV show.

Giving this 5 stars because it has my mind reeling. It wasn’t perfect, but I must applaud an author’s ability to have me absolutely stupefied.

I want to keep this review spoiler free… but I will note that after finishing the book, it’s meaning and content completely changed in my mind. I read it as one sort of novel and realized afterwards that it was completely different.

This story is told as the father of a teenage boy is a witness during a trial; Andy details the investigation and events, lending him the benefit of hindsight. Though there a few hints, the twist at the end was a great shock. Excellent book.

It was not as gripping as I'd have liked and the writing was a little clunky for me, but it wasn't bad writing.
