I was really excited to read this book. I was pretty much hooked from the beginning. The main characters Violet & Finch meet at the top of the school bell tower where they are both considering jumping. Finch saves Violet although this is their secret. They are not naturally supposed to be friends according to their respective statuses at school but after this incident they seem drawn to each other. The chapters alternate between the two characters so you get to see things from both their perspectives which I enjoy. I'm not sure which character I like most. It's such an intriguing story as their relationship develops. They become friends and partners on a class project to explore their home state of Indiana, leading to some unusual outings. I wish I could go wandering like they did. This book is inspiring (who wouldn't want to go wandering?), emotional, frustrating, heartbreaking, thoughtful. I ended the book feeling both miserable yet strangely uplifted. It's a book about survival and the need to continue even when you've faced the worst. It's also about all consuming first love and discovering who you are. It's not a read for the faint hearted. It will most likely affect you in some way. I think you could read this book several times and always come away with something different. I know I will read this book again. It's a 5* read! I absolutely adore it.

Very sad but a beautiful read. It is necessary and really important. More people should read this book.

For me it was the first time I ever read a book that had the prevalent theme/focus on suicide. And it was really well done. Made me feel some emotions. Either way anyone can relate to this book because there are levels of darkness and it was all addressed and explored in this book. Everyone goes through tough times whether it’s family death, cancer, depression, anxiety, suicide etc. and hence whatever it is it highlighted well and explored In this book. It’s amazing how one person who just can’t life can reignite and change someone else’s life for the better so that they don’t feel that way.

Anyone who is also dealing with fitting into societies labels as well as fitting into a certain image so that others can like you/accept you will also like this book as it addresses that. Also love and friendship. Family is also important. Violets parents is different to finch where he comes from a more broken home and hence u can see how that can affect a person and their mental health.

All in all it was a great book. I highly recommend!!

Spoiler Finch counts up from something violet counts down to something. The weird obsession over her losing her virginity. Finch’s inner monologue compared to the way violet sees him. Anxiety during day 75 awake-I am in peices. <<<<<Finch’s random knowledge. The violet-he’s dead the fucking cardinal metaphor

Another one off my TBR Challenge but probably should have been a DNF. This was not for me but I can see it being enjoyable for a younger audience.
