Really well done with some seriously dynamic illustrations, I mostly would just criticise the storytelling for Karen Page, who definitely didn't have to go through it like that just to serve as a bit of plot for Matt.

The Man Without Fear is THE definitive Daredevil comic book series. I say this as a huge Frank Miller fan, I am fond of his storytelling and his characterisation of Matt Murdock.

These five issues build upon Daredevil’s origin story; from when he first loses his sight, to his father’s untimely death. The Man Without Fear begins with us readers learning Matt’s morals, as a kid he studies law after his father hits him. He doesn’t want to become a bad person, like everybody else around him seems to be. He wants to learn laws and rules rigidly. Everything that shapes him into the hero he is to become is covered.
It ends with him donning the Daredevil suit for the first time.

Regarding Romita JR’s art style, the best drawn character in my opinion is Elektra. His style with the other characters is quite blocky/square-looking, which works well for the main villain The Kingpin, but not so much for some of the others. The art-style was a contributing factor to me rating this 4 stars instead of 5.

This sucked. This is beyond suck, jesus christ fuck this in particular. It takes everything you know about Daredevil and then shits on it. I thought [b:Daredevil: Yellow|485381|Daredevil Yellow|Jeph Loeb|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1298522195l/485381._SY75_.jpg|148836] was disappointing but no it was gold compared to this.

I'm reading a lot of Daredevil lately and even though I know his backstory I figured I would still check this out. But yea no this is actually the worst Daredevil story I've ever read, and I've read a lot.

LITERALLY Daredevil's main thing and something he fights with all the time is the fact of his Catholic guilt and how he can't kill even when it would solve the problem. In here? Oh fuck nah he just goes off and kills like 4 dudes on purpose and some random woman by accident and doesn't really care besides to go "oh that was sad that woman died oh well". Like ??? Maybe I'm spoiled because in the current Daredevil run by Chip Zdarsky, there's an entire plotline where he accidentally kills someone and then willingly goes to prison for it. It's so layered and you truly see how much it killed him to accidentally kill someone.

So many random little things were just SO stupid. Matt's dad suddenly dressed like a devil and his boxer name was changed to Jack ~the devil~ Murdock so that is why kids would call Matt daredevil, to make fun of him for his dad and how Matt wouldn't get in fights. Worst origin for a superhero name and I find ironic nicknames like that just annoying. Then apparently Foggy is bullied AT COLLEGE and that is why him and Matt end up as friends. ??? Maybe this just didn't age well but it was elementary school bullying and that shit isn't happening to actual adults.

Elektra shows up wearing the worst outfit known to man and her characterization is shit but its okay because she's badass and hot I guess. She exists here just for some spice to Matt's life which yes okay I get it but also no. Truly all the characterizations in here were awful and the writing in general was just shitty. Maybe if we had actually gotten Matt himself narrating but he had absolutely no personally. Zero. None. Nothing.

The story was so basic. A girl gets kidnapped, Daredevil goes to save her. Lots of shootouts and terribly drawn action. The only good thing was seeing his black outfit which is always my fave but otherwise the fighting was shit. Entire thing was lazy and the final fight was a joke.

I didn't like the art either, people were so hideous and blocky. Just throw the entire thing away. I'll never understand WHY this has such a high rating?? Why is this author considered Daredevil royalty?

best daredevil comic story line ever.

Born Again is about failing, being beaten down, battered and bruised, stripped off everything you ever had, and then somehow gathering the pieces of your life, and mustering the courage to get up one more time.
