The owner of the comic book store (or the guy behind the counter, anyway) kept making rapid fire recommendation after recommendation, and it was super overwhelming until I finally just said, "Yeah, that sounds good," so he would stop. That was the whole reason for my buying this comic, and I should have trusted my gut because I had a feeling it wasn't going to be my thing.

For me, I just didn't find any of the characters enjoyable, and the plot actually felt a little bit like that guy at the comic book store. It was just throwing too much at me and I couldn't keep up or really understand what was happening until about three issues in. Even then, I wasn't super invested. I was curious, and I think a lot of people would find it interesting, which is the reason for the 2 stars. I don't know that this was even a bad comic. It's just something I should never have picked up.

I cannot place exactly why I really enjoyed this volume, but I really really did.
This series was not even on my radar, but I saw this volume come through the library and I picked it up for the cover art alone. The writing is pretty funny and the art style is really cool and if giant sword swinging scarecrows bent on centuries old revenge from soul stealing demons does it for you, then you should seriously consider picking this up.
There was a lot going on in this first volume. You basically get to start right in the middle of the action and you get to play catch up as it all unfolds.

very, very good. I'm surprised more people aren't talking about this comic.

A truly fantastic read.
It's because of this book that I narrowed down that my jam as far as genre goes is Urban Fantasy. When the magical & mystical meet the mundane, and there are great pictures, what's not to like?

Dense atmosphere, solid artwork. The story didn't captivate me in any way, so while I may refer back to the artwork, I don't plan to continue the series.

Wow ! This hits you like a wet fish to the face, but in a good way.
Fantastic sense of urgency and movement; great pacing, nice characterization, beautifully drawn and colored.
