This book was so heartbreaking and sad…I had to keep reminding myself that this was a true story and not made up. Beautifully written. I hope that Jennette finds peace and happiness in her life.

Well written autobiography. My favorite part was the beginning and how details of her home life were revealed. There was the initial introduction and then the eventual revealing of more. Even the last chapters had additional major life revelations.

McCurdy writes with such a strong voice. I loved how the writing evolved as she aged throughout the memoir. The reader perceives the world through her childlike wonder and views of her eating disorder when it first begins. Her adult voice contrasts so strongly to the beginning of the book. I appreciated that shift in the writing style because I feel like it immersed me in McCurdy’s story more.

It truly illuminated the struggles that child actors endure. Even more so when parents force their child to act in order to make enough money to support their family. McCurdy states it very explicitly throughout the book that she won’t ever have that time of just being a kid back to herself. She can only move forward with her life.
