there is seriously so so so much i could say about this book but i’ll keep it short - this was incredible but god it was a lot. practically every single character did something that i hated at least once, which is maybe what makes it so good. the events that took place made me feel so many different emotions, both good and bad, but i loved it.

It feels very late to write about my thoughts on this book. It feels like I was not on time, that I let so many years pass before ever reading this book and acknowledging its powerful and moving description of the war crimes that ravaged and devastated the Igbo communities and people.
But it is better late than never.
What an amazing, incredible story from Adichie. I am so proud of her for documenting history in a very piercing and distinctive style that leaves an indelible impression upon its readers. I’ll never stop thinking about Kainene and I’m even more agog about what Baby would be willing to share about her childhood.

I did not enjoy this at all, which I’m fine with. I was pretty onboard with it for the first couple hundred pages probably, but I just genuinely did not like the characters enough to be actually invested in the story. The only character I really didn’t mind was Ugwu because all he wanted to ever do was help anyone. I felt like the other characters were quite shallow and self absorbed. Kainene was my least favorite character next to Odenigbo and with two major unlikeable main characters? Yikes.

Wichtig!
