While this is a fictionalized story based on pieces of the real “Postmistress”, this highlights yet another WW2 story you probably haven’t heard before of brave and sacrificing individuals trying their best to not let Hitler win. I had not heard about efforts to free intellectuals and artists at the beginning of the war prior to this.

This is a solid three star book. I enjoyed reading, though it was slow at points, but it is not a book that is particularly memorable. I liked that it was based on a real person and found the information about Vichy France , though I would have liked a little more history on that front. I also liked the ending. Parts of the book started into formulaic romance so liked the deviation.

After reading The Nightingale and All the Light we Cannot see, I think it’s hard to compare. I got this book through BOTM and still enjoyed the read, but wouldn’t necessarily recommend it to a friend.

Someday I will make a list of all the Historical Fiction books I have read based in Europe during WW II. All of them provide a unique perspective on a common theme. The Nazi's effort to eliminate Jews. In this story the author tells a story of a rich American heiress that remains in Paris to help the underground resistance movement. There are a number of unexpected twists and turns. But overall, I was not really captivated or drawn in by the characters. Fundamentally, I couldn't wait for the book to end. I did give it a 4* simple because I learned a bit of history I did not previously know. Would I recommend? If it's available and you didn't have anything else, sure… But there are so many good books to read and this would not be my first pick.
