These poems really pack a punch. Funny, brutal, devastating and yet beautiful. I read the whole collection with my heart in my mouth. A smashing together of Christian ideas with Nigerian culture and mythic, religious and historical underpinnings, overlaid with fragility and violence. This is an intense experience. Visually vivid, this poetry drips with meaning, images and symbols. The voice of the poet is so strong and despite all the moments where everything threatens to fly apart, the poet and the poetry glues everything back together.
