Loved it! The story is great and hard to put down! Can't wait for the next one to come out! Glad she's releasing these fairly quick unlike the other magic series that came out years ago that had a long delay in releases.

“‘Maybe it’s not so wise to kick magic walls,’ Natalie’s familiar voice called out from behind him, with its exotic French undertone.”

yikes.
or maybe you’re more of a

“His voice, usually so bright and rich with the flavor of his heritage [the dude’s indian, ed.], was stern and dulled as he ignored the flurry of golden sparks at the back of the classroom.”
kind of gal?

I gave the first installment of Spellshadow Manor a two-star rating, so this very review here might (and should) seem a bit hypocritical. What am I doing, reading tome two, if I didn’t even like the first one? All that effort, that time wasted, simply to be able to write a negative review? Why show such relentlessness in my crusade against this series who’s done me no wrong?

Because the author kind of kidnaps you. And I don’t mean that in a you-get-swept-away-by-the-writing-and-can’t-put-it-down kind of way, no. I mean that in the “You stick with her for the 410 pages of Spellshadow #1 and, once you’ve reached the end, find yourself with nothing but loose ends” way. So ok, it’s a series, the first book shouldn’t totally be readable in and of itself, fine. But you do want for there to be some kind of ending, leading to a new beginning. In Spellshadow, there just isn’t. This review by Lina says it all.

I could go on and on about how the author tried to infuse some cheerfulness to the school atmosphere, and it just fell flat. Or the fact that the narrative and characters often seem like a long necklace of clichés. But I won’t. 1 star says it all.

Instead, I compiled a list of what “adults or teens who enjoyed Harry Potter” will probably enjoy more than this book over here.

-----------------------------------------------
you'd think I would have enjoyed more a book where people wear all black and spend 90% of their waking hours hunting books.

Defs not as engrossing as the first but I still want answers so I guess I'll keep reading.
