Loved this retelling of the awesome story of Elizabeth Cady Stanton...I also loved how the author was very descriptive about Mr. Stanton and how he took his wife's ideas seriously. I think there are lots of 'teachable moments' here for boys and girls alike.

Kinda flat. The storytelling wasn't moving to me and I feel like it should have been.

In short bits of prose, Stone lets readers see the power of questioning “why?” as Elizabeth did, when she wondered why males had more rights from females. While definitely for younger readers (ages 5-7, I’d say), Elizabeth Leads the Way does encompass all the pivotal moments of Stanton’s life. What I love about this book is it’s a nice primer for a discussion of women’s rights for small children, without the dates and historical background that might dampen their enthusiasm.
Illustrator Rebecca Gibbon’s folkart illustrations pair nicely with Stone’s brief text. As each moment in Stanton’s timeline is detailed, the images are presented on white backgrounds. There’s a sense of importance to these words, they seem to demonstrate.

Recommended by Jeff Anderson at All Write session. A great picture book biography and a great mentor text. I especially like the lead in this book. A great story --would make a great read aloud.

A great way to introduce with women's suffrage movement! Although a quick read, this book is filled with many details about Elizabeth Cady Stanton and takes an honest look at the reaction of many when women began their fight for suffrage.
