I love the inkworld it makes me feel nostalgic and enjoyed reading this alot as a teenager. It is dark for a middle grade as there is death and threats. There us a lot of exploring the world, new characters, and how everyone fits into the picture.
But because of that it does feel slow paced for how big the book is. There are alot of moments which are tense and emotional. The climax of the story pulls all the plans together and the tension was high even on a re-read. I enjoy Meggie etc getting to go into Inkheart world and am delighted we get to see Dustfinger in his element but I remember feeling sadder with this book then the cosier feel of the first and of the three I think it is my least favourite but I still had a great time in this world. I enjoy Rosenquartz and The Black Prince. The Piper is a great addition to the villains of the story and the magical elements like the soot made of water on fire was cool.
