So this is what they mean when they say the X-Men is a soap opera.

I don't even know I just wanted to venture into comics! But I'm grateful that I did because this was so much fun!

Obviously the whole Scott/Maddie thing was a ridiculous hot mess. that could have been handled a million different (and better) ways. That aside, I was really into this early on. I really liked when it was focused on getting the team back together and their early exploits. It lost me a little with Thor, Morlocks and Power Pack, but it was pretty enjoyable overall.

Having only read synopses of these storylines, it was great to read and catch up and get the original stories. The Cyclops and Jean are arc are a bit soap-operaish, but Angel's transformation by Apocalypse, the Morlock Massacre and Skids and Rusty's story more than makes up for that. It was a solid collection.
And if you really get annoyed at it being black and white, you could always use it as a colouring book.
