Not bad at all. Alex Hunter, badass marine (or HAWC’s as they are referred to in the book) with a interesting twist making him a bit more than a “ordinary” commando solder. This caught my interest fairly early on in the book.

They are sent on a rescue mission deep under the Antarctic ice where the discover…well you have to read the book to learn what they discovered but I found it quite a good read and not exactly what I had expected. The team consists not only of Alex’s fellow commandos but also of a bunch of researchers out of which one of them is the typical tiresome asshole that you just hoped would get “disposed of”. Preferably as painfully as possible.

Just to complicate things further the author throws in a competing Russian command team lead by a sadistic psychopath with a grudge against Alex. Actually I felt this was a bit over the top. The rest of the story was good enough to keep my interest.

The basic story is a fairly classical one of team-goes-into-confined-area-not-all-of-them-comes-out. As a matter of fact, quite a few of them doesn’t come out. The story is well written though and has enough interesting elements to not give you a yet-another-one-of-those feelings when reading it.

I am fairly sure that I will give, at least, the next one in the series a go as well.

Well written thriller. Lovecraftian and whatnot. I liked it. A couple characters were over the top and the creature itself was at times laughably horrendous , but it works out. An intriguing concept and worth experiencing.

Lots of telling instead of showing. Long winded sentences. An extra plot that had zero bearing on the story and was instead a distraction. I wanted to like this book but once I reached half way it was tedious to finish.

Pretty good book. It seemed a bit longer than it needed to be with the long chase underground but it kept my attention and now i need to go find the next one in the series.

Creepy, full of action and horror. Loved all the science and history behind it, felt like it really could be possible. Characters felt a bit one dimensional.

The story was ok, and the performer/reader was good. The story was interesting. I can't say much more than that. I'm glad I read it, but I won't be searching for sequels.

Milfic, Antarctica, caves, darkness, something scary in those caves, people mysteriously disappearing without a trace. A search-and-rescue party is sent with some scientists and some badass soldiers. You get the picture. Pure brain candy/pulp fiction. Speed, action and a high and regular body count.

I don‘t know if a bullet lodged in the brain could really lead to the skills described here. Sounds a bit too fantastical. Anyway, suspending disbelief.

I could have done without the stereotypic cookie-cutter bad guy and the crazy scientist, but unfortunately these characters are regulars in these pulp-fiction horror/milfic novels. I am also wondering about some other things happening in the book, but mentioning them would be too spoilerish.

If you are a fan of Center-of-the-Earth stories, caving and creature features, this is a fun choice. For what it was, it was an entertaining read. 🦑🦑🦑🦑 for this one!
