Маленький американский городок, дети и надвигающееся Зло - типично американский жанр, где подростки вынуждены самостоятельно справляться с происходящим кошмаром.
Отличный представитель наравне с Оно, Год призраков, Что-то страшное грядет

2023: so glad I chose to reread this and that I recommended it to the local book club this book is spooky and delivers it’s scares on multiple fronts. The other thing that stuck with me from this reading is the way it’s written like each character is a main character. I loved that I’m still upset about Dwayne. And surprised how much Mike’s narrative parts took over as my favorites to read. I enjoy Cordie Cook showing up when she does and how her fate changes! I can’t wait to discuss this book next week!!

2020:Book Review- Summer of Night by Dan Simmons

I feel like I have no one to blame but myself for putting off on reading this for so long. The person who was missing out was ME!! This book is up there in contingency with the Exorcist for the scariest book I’ve ever read!!! And I loved every scary minute of it. This book is scarier than It. It’s honestly better across the board shhhhh don’t tell Stephen or Pennywise.

This is a compilation of great things. Scary/spooky from the start, but no real idea what is going on. Great cast of characters. They are all well fleshed out with interesting perspectives, and family dynamics. Intelligent story telling with a really dynamic history that actually makes sense. Graphic terrifying imagery that jumps off the page. Finally a solid ending with GIANT risks and a big payout. It’s 5/5

I can’t recommend this enough. Especially if you want to be scared, and prepare yourself for spooky season!

A coming of age story about a group of pre-teens in a small town forced to confront an ancient evil that the adults seem to want nothing to do with….. yeah, I can see why the IT comparisons are rife with this one. Whether it’s by accident, homage or plagiarism though, it was still a pretty great book.

What I did like here is the fact that while yes it’s a horror book, it’s also a wonderful sleuth adventure too. It was a slow build as the kids spend their time uncovering what the hell is going on, rather than jumping straight into the action.
The pacing for me really worked though. It was foreboding and added layers of tension(and horror) as our little detectives uncovered more information. In fact, I would say the more they uncovered, the more the danger mounted which built up to a pretty all out final push and a satisfying finish.

There was some truly wonderful, and varied, horror moments throughout and the imagery was perfectly described to give you those chilling visuals.

Wow...one of the best books I've read in a while. I read in some Others' reviews that this was even better than Stephen King and I have to agree! even though it was almost 600 pages I flew through it in 2 days because I couldnt put it down. It did everything a good horror novel should: it scared me and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Part of me wonders what my impression of this book would be if I hadn’t read Stephen King’s It first. Because this is a very very similar book. Bunch of boys (plus a girl) battle unknowable evil which doesn’t reveal itself to adults with evil townie accomplices. I’m an avid King fan and frankly I think he did it better: richer characters, more pathos from his deaths, a richer and more terrifying evil. But I enjoyed this book and it’s unique twists. Simmons really shines in the second half of books based on the Hyperion quartet and I think that holds here.
