This was a really intriguing graphic novel. My understanding is that it started as a WebToon and was adapted to a graphic novel. By the end, I had more questions than answers but I'm still intrigued enough to read the second book. The world is really interesting. Everyone has wings and is a different species of bird. Where you rank in the heirarchy depends on your species. I'm really excited to read more.

I noticed while I was reading that some scenes were really dark. Like dark enough to be hard to read. It wasn't until I read some other reviews that I realized it's probably because the original art was meant to be read through a screen. So I'm not super impressed with how they adapted the artwork but the rest of the art was great!

I'm guessing the art was drawn with the thought that it would be viewed on a screen, but so much of this book is so incredibly dark that I really struggled to see what was going on in some scenes.

3.5 rounded up, would be a solid 4 stars if not for the art issues

This was a very interesting start, definitely leaves you wanting more/curious about what's being set up. The characters and setting seem fun and I'm definitely looking forward to reading more, and hopefully we'll get more actual interactions between Scra, Ky, and Ree now too.

My only real critique is the art is very dark and hard to see at points, e.g. scenes set at night or in dark rooms, and the paneling and placement of word bubbles often makes it hard to follow, I'm not sure if it's because this started as a webcomic and had to be re-arranged for a physical printing or what. (And if perhaps the dark scenes were easier to see on a lit up screen.)

Definitely a solid start, though a bit slow in some places. I feel like this first volume barely makes a dent into the story, but the bits of lore it gave was very cool. Ky gives some major himbo energy, but it also feels like he’s got some real hidden depths. I got a little lost with the layout of the pages sometimes and would have to start over when I realized I’d read them out of order. It just wasn’t always intuitive. I’m definitely invested, though.

This first volume is a solid 4.25 ⭐️! It featured a lot of interesting and complex characters that drove the plot smoothly from chapter to chapter. From the beginning, the world-building was immersive and fleshed out the caste injustices in their winged society. There was a lot of allusion to some historical event that landed crows at the bottom of the pecking order (heh heh), but it was never fully explained. Being volume 1, I don’t think this is a bad thing and it makes me want to pick up volume 2 once it drops! There was also some queer representation and tension between the main characters that I’m sure will be manipulated in further chapters. As for where it lacked, some of the plot elements seemed overly convenient, such as
SpoilerNeekia gladly joining forces with Ky to save Scra from the Magpies.
There were also some heavy-handed racial innuendos to liken crows to minorities in real-life society which came off as diminutive. All in all, however, this graphic novel was a delightful read and definitely soared above my expectations!
