Not rating for this as it’s a non-fiction, I will never judge someone for sharing their story with the world.

Since 2021 I’ve really got into F1 and that is definitely down to Drive To Survive and I’m not ashamed to admit it. Some people give it a bad name but it’s done a lot for the sport!

Guenther definitely is one of my faves in the F1 world and it’s sad we don’t see him as much anymore but his post race interviews make me smile.

I’m actually going to an a night of his tour next week and wanted to get this read beforehand.

It was great seeing another view point of a sport I now love and I was even laughing at some points like he always makes me. Need to smile, get some Guenther in your life!

I’ve always had soft spot for Haas, everyone loves an underdog, and with my fave driver, Ocon, joining them next year, I will be supporting them even more!

Oh. My. Goodness. When I saw Guenther Steiner had a book coming, I was interested. When I saw it was read by the man himself, I wasted absolutely not one second in preordering the book on Audible. I was alllll over this and damn, if it didn’t exceed my hopes and dreams.

This is probably one of my favourite audiobook experiences. I loved the fact Steiner just came across as genuine, like it was just a man having a chat and sharing stories about his day and his job and sometimes his past, it was great. It felt authentic, and I love his self deprecating sense of humour. I love the Haas team, I love Steiner, and this book delivered. It made me laugh a lot and it also offered great insight into managing the team but also more of the behind the scenes in F1. The format was great, too, as it didn’t become a stuffy autobiography, and I was thrilled that Steiner’s writing style reflected himself and was exactly what I was hoping it would be, it was authentic (I was worried that publishers/lawyers/whoever would have stifled his voice, but this did not happen).

I would definitely buy more books from Steiner if they come, genuinely this was such a blast, and can definitely recommend this.

Largely enjoyed this snapshot of F1 life.

There were some sections that I absolutely loved, and I would clear them quickly. It was also funny, had me chuckling to myself throughout, and I can see why Steiner has become a personality.

But my interest would start to wane a bit. It was quite negative in tone and repetitive in the negatives. Oh woe is me, this day was shit.we were rubbish. Shot for every time 'lady luck' was mentioned, etc. I also thought that some sections were quite 'surface'. I wanted more depth and detail. Maybe it wasn't helped that this was being written while Steiner was still in the role, and so some things couldn't be said or documented, but at times it was too much oh-this-massive-thing-has-just-happened-I'm-pissed-okay-off-to-bed, and you'd never know what had specifically happened behind the scenes. Which I thought was the point of the diary.

Like, I've read the book, and I still couldn't tell you what Steiner does? He is the team principal. Okay. He watches the races. He sometimes gives talks to interested parties. He takes selfies with fans. He calls Gene Haas. But what's he doing day to day? If I wanted race stats and finishing positions, I could have gone on Wikipedia?

I guess my summary is that the book lacked focus. Was it a diary for a season at Haas, or was it a diary of Team Principle of Haas Guenther Steiner? Because it tried to do both, but neither quite hit the mark for me.
