I am on the fence about this one. There were parts that really hit me with clarity, and then there were parts that just seemed like words going around in circles. I tend to be pretty open minded about this kind of subject matter, but perhaps this was just a bit too over my head...

OK - I'm only half way through but my beef is that I need more anecdotes to be inspired. :) I will complete this one, but each chapter is one that you have to digest and work on in your life - not a book to plow through in one sitting and actually make progress.

Pretty good for a book like this-I underlined lots of parts, and it made me think - but there were parts that I found issue with. What's with self help books claiming that you can cure your cancer and your depression with positive thinking?

Some really good parts, some really meh parts. They balance to make this a solidly mediocre book.

"Depression, for example, is a complex response that can be healed by insight, compassion, patience, caring attention from others, willingness, and professional therapy. Or you can take a pill and not bother. The choice is personal and varies from person to person. Conditions as apparently hopeless as childhood autism have been cured by parents who spent enormous amounts of time and attention to bring a child back from darkness."

Erroneous passages like this took me out of it. Other aspects were valuable and insightful, but I found it hard to get past certain beliefs of his.
