Entertaining, though the characters were vapid and the shocking end wasn't that shocking. The best part of this book is the magnificent cover.

It seems i am in the minority when i gave this book 4 stars. I completely understand why this could have been a lower star book. But i also think i went into the book with a more realistic understanding of what the book would be like. I had wanted a story that would be fluff, one that i could read easily and be more for entertainment. When i read the back and it indicated its similarity to Gossip girl i knew that it would feed my inner teenage gossiper. So i went into the book knowing that it wouldn't be as deep or complex as other books.

Godbersen did just that, provide entertainment through a gossip girl style writing. There was a betrayal, caste system. forsaken love and of course mean girl gossip and scheming. Even though the plot was pretty predictable there was moments that shocked me. I wanted to slap several characters for their actions while applauding others. It was high school all over again but with corsets.

I did enjoy the time frame that this story was set in as well. From the clothing to the cultural restraints on the genders and how they played into the plot. Watching how reputation is more important than anything. It reminded me of playing chest and families would use their children as pieces on a board.

Tbh this was a little YA for my taste. However, I always loved the gilded age even if honestly i couldn’t root for literally a single character. They all kinda sucked and not in a fun gossip girl way.

I'm actually surprised I enjoyed this book so much. I hated so many of the characters - so spoiled and arrogant. The plot was great though. I'm glad there are three more books in the series because I'm not really happy with the way this one ended.

I read this book for the first time when I was probably 13/14 and at that time the story seemed more juicy that it is now that I'm older. When I read it in the first time I didn't really gave importance to Lina's story but now I'm getting it and actually enjoying it.
My favourite character still is Diana and her love story with Henry was the most important point that made me want to read this series again.
I never read the last book from the serie since it only exists in English so I'm reading it again so I can read the last book and put an end to everyone's story.
Still this books will forever be in my heart.

What a wonderful book. I love historical books, going back in a time where society and appearance was the most importance.

I'm left wanting more now I need to find Rumours so I can find out what's going to happen next.
