3.5 I love her writing. This story feels quite unbalanced at the start where it spends all its time with a new character and barely gets to Ripley. But, that's resolved later and Ripley becomes a huge part of it. It's all typically deft, restrained, and full of the travel/food/clothing/lifestyle appeals that made the first book so good. And, as always, Highsmith handles the fine and messy details of morality beautifully. Not nearly as good as the first book, but a total pleasure.
