I really enjoyed this book until about 75-80% into it. The story was really cute and is loved the animal rescue plot line but felt that additional character backstory/development would really help understanding the FMC especially. There were many unresolved trauma responses that didn’t really make since because we didn’t have her entire backstory.
Overall it was a super cute read - but I may have enjoyed Chick-Chick’s story the most.

To Get To The Other Side is a super cute romantic comedy based in Chicago. When Trixie saves an injured chicken struggling to cross the road, she quickly feels a connection to the animal, and as an animal lover, is committed to getting Chick-Chick the proper care to heal and make a full recovery. Unfortunately, her landlord has a no pet policy, which forces her to find another place to live. After his sisters post a rent add without his permission, Bear’s house becomes quite popular and sought after. Luckily, Bear feels a connection to Trixie (and remembers her from all the commotion she caused when he saw her save a chicken), and he reluctantly lets her move in. From there, it doesn’t take long for the two to cross their platonic ground rules and become something more. Layered with financial issues, a family business that needs to be saved, and emotional baggage, To Get to the Other Side will steal your heart and keep you laughing the entire time!
I really enjoyed this book and felt like it was the perfect lighthearted read. I enjoyed the characters and their banter and highly recommend this book! I listened to the audiobook and felt like the two narrators did an excellent job in their roles. I really enjoyed having two narrators to alternate between the Trixie and Bear chapters.

I really wanted to liked this book but the female main character was so unlikable I just couldn't. She did things and said things that I didn't find funny just annoying which in the end was a huge part of me not enjoying the book.
Our MMC was also very one dimensional and I didn't care about him to be honest.
Still I did like the authors writing style and I'm curious about other books from this author.

Maybe it was because they got the floral industry wrong. Maybe it was because it was closed door after all that teasing. Maybe because the FMC had one friend betray her and she never gave another person a Chance. This probably deserves a 3 star, but I'm grumpy right now.

When Trixie stopped her car in the middle of a busy road to save a chicken, she wasn’t aware how this chicken would change her life.
Because of her landlord’s no pets policy she is forced to look for a new apartment with her feathered friend.
Bear lives a quiet life alone in his flat until his sisters post an ad to rent out his spare room. But once Trixie appears on his doorstep the two decide to become roommates and despite their plans to keep things platonic things start to heat up between the two.

This book was all that I could ask for: A fun and weightless romance novel with a loving main character.
The book made me laugh and cry and I just could not put it down.
Trixie was a character that was relatable. Her fear of disappointing people and loosing them felt so realistic. I love that she isn’t the perfect girl next door but somebody suffering from panic attacks. This just makes her character so much more realistic.
Bear was just a super cuddly person. He seems like the type of person who you would just see and immediately start loving. The way he acts around his family and friends just seems so natural.
The whole relationship and friendship between the two was just so well thought out and seemed so realistic that I found myself feeling along with them.
Just a few side notes: The book is written from both Trixie’s and Bear’s point of view. There is no smut in any of the scenes but some talk about it.

This book had several “LOL” moments, and the plot was just outlandish enough to really draw the reader in to the world the author created. The main characters were compelling and well formed, and the chemistry between them is very sweet.
Although the book is set in a world where the Pandemic exists, it isn’t really dealt with, which I felt was an odd choice. The author mentions social distancing, and keeping six feet apart, but that’s the only reference to a global pandemic.
I enjoyed the choices made to reveal pieces of information ad different times, to move the story forward, I think it kept my attention much better than if there’d been a lot of exposition at the front end. Everything also wrapped up nicely, although I do wish the parental trauma on both sides had been more explicitly dealt with.
Overall, a very enjoyable read!
