Thoughts while reading this book:

- No wonder Yoda did not want to train Luke, he has the mind of a teenage girl.

- Also, I thought Luke acquired some lightsaber skills in Weapon of a Jedi. They appear to be gone now.

- "Almost all of it sailed past our cockpit into the void, but the concentrated fire was too much to dodge forever and another bolt clipped us, essentially wiping out our shields except for a courtesy veil of energy as sheer as a negligee."

A negligee, Luke, really? That's what you're thinking of when space battling for your life?

Really a 2.5:

I'm a fan of Kevin Hearne, and his voice is great in the Iron Druid books, but it just feels out of place when applied to Luke Skywalker. Theory also feels off. I'm not sure how much of that is the writer, and how much of it is the Disney overtake of the Star Wars property.

I really like Kevin Hearne. Usually. I love his Iron Druid series. But not this. I did not care for this at all.

As I said the last time I read a Star Wars tie-in novel...I may not read another one. Maybe it's just not for me.

I loved this book. Getting to see Luke come to terms with his fledgling Jedi abilities and reflect on everything that has happened to him and how it could affect his future was a joy. The ending was a bit predictable, butI think I'm OK with it in this case because a wild twist wouldn't have fit very well narratively.

i know this was initially supposed to be legends continuity and only slipped its way into canon like a noodle propelled by the force, but it truly FELT like a legends book /neg

Fascinating tale of Luke after the Battle of Yavin on a mission for the Rebellion. I enjoyed the glimpse into a young and mentor-less Luke. Felt like 2 separate storylines: I would take an entire Star Wars horror story of the camouflaging brain eaters. I would take another whole spy story of Luke undercover. Both felt incomplete and left me wanting more than novel-long fridging of one of the best female characters written into canon.
