When every guy Avina takes on a date ends up six-feet-under, courtesy of an obsessed stalker, she’s surprised to discover her secret admirer is her brother's best friend, the dark and formidable Nyx. His hunger is an intoxicating blend of fear and excitement—an adrenaline rush Avina has never known. With the night of the Halloween Carnival looming, so too does his promise to claim her. Avina knows she should run, but the idea of being his prey is too tempting to resist.

A fast and simple read centred on the spicier aspects of the story, Welcome to Carnage was a pleasant enough way to spend time reading. The setting was intriguing and the story featured primal play, which is a favourite indulgence of mine. However, despite going in with an open mind and setting what I thought were reasonable expectations for the format, I found the writing and characters were somewhat banal and underwhelming. The “HEA” as it was written was also a big nope for me—it didn’t fit the story or characters at all and took away from the overall vibes of the story, which I had enjoyed. As a dark romance fan, I was disappointed that this was a miss for me.

Gurl, I don't know how to say this but let me say it anyway, "It's not me, it's you." Sorry, not sorry.

I don't understand how you did not see his obsession with you because it was there in front of you and yet, you proved to be the stupidest woman to ever cross the road. I am really surprised that you did not get hit. He stalked you. Had been obsessed with you. Killed two guys.

And yet, you would have continued to ignore it if it danced in front of you and did a striptease.

It is characters like this chick that make me try to stay far, far away from short stories but the premises always sound so promising and end up reeling me in only to disappoint.
