Ce livre est assez triste, bien écrit et est le seul livre qui m'a donné la nausée, très bon livre

Conmovedor, emotivo, directo y sin pretensiones. Merece todo el hype que hay a su alrededor, Annie Ernaux para millenials.

This is the narrative of Edouard Louis’s (aka Eddy Bellegueule) childhood in his village in the north of France. Harsh description of what it represent to grow in such socio economic context as a homosexual guy. Well written and sadly very true…

Completed in 2 days! Really good portrayal and observation of what life in poverty in France is like, on top of the weathering of being a feminine boy growing up in a homophobic community. Really great constant analysis of, from Louis’s view, why people act the way they do in his community and similar communities. Ex: “Men act like this b/c…” Really interesting story. Heavy read.

I thought this was an excellent read, especially the latter half. The first half focuses more on the life of the village and family, without a strong driving narrative but the second half tells how Eddy grows up, tries to deal with the social pressures around him, his growing attraction to men, his desire to fit in and be a man.

Some passages are hard to read - I found the section on the spit with the bullies one of the hardest. Overall I thought it was a very moving portrayal of growing up in an environment that doesn't accept you.
