Fourth and final book in the Diviner's series. Historical fiction that takes places in the 1920's about teenagers with special powers that vary from dream walking, object readings, and people healing. The first two books (my favorite in the series) had more of a ghost story vibe and was what drew me into reading these books. The latter two morphed into a story about government conspiracies and wealthy people in power trying to game the paranormal world to help make the country great again It sounds like an odd segue, but surprisingly it works. The extreme xenophobia found in the last two books mirror a lot of what is going on in modern day times. Solid read if you're a fan of historical fiction in the 1920's and like paranormal stories.

damn, this book
The Only Thing I Wish Was Different
... Was that one of the straight romances had been pushed out of the main characters to make space for a queer romance to exist within the ground dynamic. Henry might be gay and Ling might be sapphic, but... Neither of their stories/eventual partners feature to the same depth and degree as their straight counterparts. The Straights have two couples, front and centre, while the queer ones have none within the Diviners themselves. Theta and Memphis, Sam and Evie. They get to be two couples always, always there and together whenever the Diviners are together. Two straight couples pairing off while our queers are relegated to side romances. It stings a little, ngl. Sure, the queerness exists, but it does not get the same treatment as the vanilla default of ya romance "Teh Straightz".

I’m not sure how to put into words just how beautiful and well put together this book and the entire series is. I laughed. I cried. I was spooked. I was angry. And I cried some more.
And although I can’t say I enjoyed the last book as much as I would have liked, this series and all these characters will live with me for a long time to come.

I loved loved loved these books. I read them all so fast. I think I read them in 7th grade. I definitely should re read these though!
These books are about a girl who can see people's biggest secrets. She gets sent to live with her uncle in New York city. While she is there she makes friends who also have powers and they have to defeat ghosts.
