Another book won off of goodreads. I'm excited to read it when it comes!

And it did not disappoint. It does a great job combining action, history, international affairs, and conspiracy. I had never read a book by Steve Berry before and I was happy to see that this book is part of a series. I am looking forward to going back and reading earlier books in this series.

The book reminds me of Dan Brown's books, but I think the characters more than in the Dan Brown books. You get that there is more to Cotton and I want to know more about his past that was alluded to in the book. However, you don't need to have read the other books in the series to enjoy the book which is nice.

I keep trying to write this review in my head. It's either one word long or paragraphs and paragraphs, so I'll stick with the one-word version of the review:

Meh.

This far in, I should be, if not invested, at least interested. I was neither.

This is probably closer to 3.5 stars than 4 but definitely not a 3 star book.   It was another fun adventure with Cotton Malone stopping another plot against mankind while exploring history and destroying national treasures again!  :-)  .  It is always fun to hear the writer's notes in terms of what he has pulled straight from history and what he has added or adapted for his story.  I enjoyed it.

I would have liked an option for 2 1/2 stars for this one. I enjoyed listening to this story for the snippets of history and the suspense, but Berry tends to require more suspension of disbelief than other writers of this genre, which detracts some from my enjoyment. When the main character was jumping out of a helicopter onto and then into an auto-controlled plane, I found myself rolling my eyes more than holding my breath. That said, I like the historical references in his novels, and there is a good author's note at the end that teases out what's real versus invented.

This is my first time reading anything written by Steve Berry- I won it in the goodreads giveaway. The beginning of the book was really fast paced & interesting but after that I found that the book was dragging all the way until part four. Part four picked up some speed & was really interesting. This book is good for anyone who is really into Napolean. I have read other reviews stating that Steve Berry's other books were much better & I'm slightly tempted to read one more.
