There's definitely something interesting here, but I found the writing to be a bit too juvenile to really dive in. The characters have a decent amount of nuance, and the general plot is pretty cool. I have to admit the level of gore and physical violence is a bit shocking and can be a little much at times, which also affected my enjoyment - though I also kind of appreciate the author really going there with certain situations. Despite my mild feelings about the first book, I will most likely check out the rest as this book lands on a pretty significant cliffhanger!

Be warned,  the ending is a cliffhanger.

Nita dissects unnaturals.  She focuses on her task and not how the bodies got to her take.   When she is brought a live boy, she has a case of  Morals.

After helping the boy escape,  Nita finds herself a prisoner.  She is about to have her body parts sold to the highest bidder.

Nita learns that she is willing to cross many lines in the fight to get her freedom.   Exactly what separates a monster from a good person.

Not Even Bones is a fanatic read.   It is rather gory,  so not recommended for the squeemish.

Wow. This is a YA book? This is very graphic. I might just have a sensitive stomach but this book has such detailed descriptions of body horror that I have ever read. It’s also really dehumanizing in the content. Just oh my gosh it was so vile.

The plot was very intriguing from the get go, and kept my attention all the way throughout. The first half of the book is literally 5 stars out of 5. It was just perfect in terms of storytelling and graphic-ness.

Where I think it looses its full 5 star rating is a little way more than half. It starts to become a tad bit repetitive. At some points, I questioned and even was a tad annoyed at some of the actions both characters made. The book leads you into thinking it will continue to explore different settings, yet our main character kept going back and fourth when I wanted the story to develop. It almost felt like the author was stalling for time. Again, a lot of it felt like filler but it’s manageable to get through.

By climax of the book, it picks up again. I enjoyed the plot twists the book gave and it made a great set up to tease the sequel. Overall, I enjoyed this book a lot, the writing style was easy to connect too. Even though I felt like throwing up at some points, the plot is so captivating it’s hard to put it down.
