The stories are captive, amazing, and some kind of tragic. Not the Twilight-cliche tragic.

I liked The Chosen most of all. Rashel's character is just so captivating and strong.

Dark Angel
*2.5*

This one had such an interesting beginning with Gillian, our MC, nearly dying and being saved by some kind of supernatural being. There was even a couple of pretty entertaining scenes throughout, but it was brought down by some of the more mundane and boring scenes. Plus the romance felt really forced.

The Chosen
*3.25*

I found this story to be the most enjoyable out of all of them featured in this volume. We had a unique, and interesting MC this time around, who didn't constantly do stupid things (some things were kind of dumb, but for the most part she was fairly smart). Rashel is a bit of a badass with a really messed up back story, that wants to kill all vampires until she falls in love with one, and I really enjoyed this premise... mostly. My biggest issue was the insta love that is extremely present in this book, it's super irritating and takes away a lot of my investment in the story. Overall I really liked this one, the ending was just a bit lame.

Soulmate
*2*

Le Sigh. By far the worst one in my opinion, and the most upsetting part was how much potential it had. I liked all the lore we get of how vampires came into existence, but I do feel that it could've been edited down a touch. Hannah is a really irritating MC, she seems to be pretty intelligent, yet she does some of the most moronic things I have ever seen. The ending was pretty bland, and so was a lot of the conflict sadly. The romance was a bit more believable this time around, but still not the greatest.

I think I'm getting really bored with the boring formula to The Night World series. I miss the longer, and more developed plots of The Secret Circle and Dark Visions. They focused on one cast of characters with an evil that took three books to defeat, not a bad-guy-of-the-week plot with only small appearances by past characters. And most importantly, the love stories were handled SO much better. I'm not sure if I want to continue this series, I guess we'll just wait and see.

I read all these books when they first came out and I was just a teeny bopper way back in the 90s. I still love rereading them and I lend then to every teenager I know how likes to read
