While it is true that this is my least favourite of the series, I still love it very very much. And my recent reread just completely proves that point. I didn't expect it to enjoy as much as I did so here's a list of the things that I liked:
Spoiler
- Percabeth bonding moments
- Different side to Clarisse
- Hamster!Percy
- WeddingDress!Grover
- Percy and Clarisse bonding moments
- Tyson 🥺
- Establishing the extent of Luke's evilness
- Thalia Grace is in the scene yo
- Percy discovering that he's a human GPS now
- Nobody!
- Percy vs. Luke face-off
- Tantalus getting what he deserved (no burgers)

“‘That’s what makes heroes special. You carry the hopes of humanity into the realm of the eternal… You fight the battles humanity must win, every generation, in order to stay human.’”

This book started off a little bit slow, but it was still just as amazing as I remembered. I loved watching Percy’s relationship with Tyson develop. The ending when Tyson gave him the watch that turns into a shield was so sweet. Seeing Tyson finally get acceptance among the campers and Percy and Annabeth almost made me cry.

I loved the scene with the Sirens. I completely forgot about that. I loved the whole idea of Annabeth’s fatal flaw being hubris (deadly pride). It’s such a unique flaw to have and I feel like it works really well with her character. It makes her that much more complex and makes me love her even more. Of course I also loved seeing her and Percy get closer to each other not just in that scene, but throughout the book. Some of my favorite scenes are ones where it’s just the two of them talking to each other having those deeper conversations.

The ending of this book is so good. I remember reading this as a kid and being blown away by the plot twist. Rick really knew what he was doing with this one. Thalia coming back to life raises the stakes so much. It just makes everything that much more intense because of the prophecy and the fact that now we don’t know even more whether the prophecy is about Percy or Thalia.

Overall, this book started out a little slow, but it definitely picked up. There’s a lot of action, but there’s also some very important development in character relationships that I loved.

Favorite Quotes:
“I wished Annabeth were here… I’d never admit it to her, but she was smarter than me, even if she was annoying sometimes.”

“I’d missed Annabeth probably more than I wanted to admit.”

“Mythologically speaking, if there’s anything I hate worse than trips of old ladies, it’s bulls.”

“I’d learned a long time ago not to question Annabeth too much. It just made me more confused.”

“‘I’m glad you’re not a guinea pig.’”

“‘Yeah, but still… that was pretty brave, Annabeth.’”

“‘My fatal flaw. That’s what the Sirens showed me. My fatal flaw is hubris.’”

“‘You’re a genius,’ I told Annabeth quietly.”

“‘Percy is too nice,’ Annabeth grumbled, but I couldn’t help thinking that maybe, just maybe, she was a little impressed. I’d surprised her, anyway. And that wasn’t easy to do.”
