this book made me experience the full spectrum of human emotion. still sad over some things in it!!! it is a really good book that illustrates how we as humans are so much more than the versions of ourselves that we choose to show and that we all have trauma, we all have good and bad sides, and there are things we all would rather keep hidden.

Words cannot explain how much I loved this book. So I’ll instead talk about my only flaw: I didn’t care that much for the author's therapy sessions.

Don’t get me wrong, they weren’t bad. I did enjoy them and I liked how the author’s growth played into her clients' development. But I just thought her clients were so much more interesting to read about.

This book was really well written, and I couldn’t put it down. I found the stories of patients, particularly Julie, deeply moving. I didn’t always love how technical the psychotherapy theory got, but I suppose I should expect that from a psychotherapist. Overall it was a book that prompted reflection on life and love and how to do both well, and that’s worth the read.

Love the concept and the character development, but the writing is not as beautiful as I had hoped.

I would not consider this a self-help book  despite what others believe. I read it more as an autobiography/fiction rather than an informative manual or motivational speech to convince you to go to therapy. It’s a very casual book but it contains deeply contemplative themes that will certainly make you reflect on your own life, and perhaps convince you to finally go to therapy after all.
