This is the least favorite of the series I’ve read so far. The racism was a little much, especially because there wasn’t a narrative reason. It seemed to be mostly there for “flair” and “realism,” however the beauty of historical fiction is that, if we choose, we can create a corner of history where people are treated fairly. I only finished the book because it was short and
I wanted to read how she met her adoptive  daughters.

It is unfair of me to judge the main mystery having watched the show, so I won't. I did appreciate that the side mysteries came together well, although are much darker than in the show, and she is really collecting that found family

Phryne Fisher books are like James Bond without the misogyny.  Sexy, decadent, whip-smart and unappoligetic, Phyrne always metes out her form of justice to the people who deserve it, in the most stylish way possible.  These are the books I turn to when the patriarchy gets me down.
