I might have skipped a few comics, here and there--not for lack of trying, but for the sheer enormity of this collection (and my boyfriend knocking out my bookmark, but I'm not placing blame).

I will say that, while I only vaguely recognized Calvin & Hobbes from the newspaper comics of my childhood, when every ounce of political satire was wasted on my young eyes, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the selections from this book. Not only did it remind me, fondly, of the imagination and wonder that we all shared in childhood; it reminded me, too, of the politically-motivated comics taped to the check-out desk of my favorite local bookstore. Nostalgia works in the funniest of ways!

A super fun read with my son! Some of the context for jokes didn’t hold up so well 30 years later, but most of them did. We laughed out loud many times!
